Here are 2 mc's with a really interesting story. Both have had really tough times in their lives and are now 2 of my favorite mc's in the underground scene.
MF Doom, formely Zev Luv X from the legendary old school group KMD lost his mind when his brother Subroc, also a member of the group, was killed when hit by a car. He went homeless for a few years wandering the streets of New York, sleeping on park benches.
He got back into the hip-hop scene in 1997 under the new name MF Doom. He has since been wearing a mask when he performs and has never been photographed without. He raps under many aliases and has a different personality for each one.

MF Grimm, formely GM Grimm or The Grimm Reaper started to rap back in the early 90's. He got shot by rival drug dealer in 1994 and was hit 7 times. He was deafened, blinded and paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors tought he would suffer nulled senses and be paralyzed for the rest of his life. He recovered his vision, hearing, and speech ability, but is still confined to a wheelchair.
In 2000, Facing narcotics charges, Grimm was sentenced to life imprisonment. While in prison he studied law and after filing many appeals, he was able to reduce his sentence to three years and was released in 2003.
